Time transcripts of movcaptioner.mov [00:00:00.01] [00:00:02.02] To begin using MovCaptioner, the first thing we're going to do is to click the Load Movie button, [00:00:06.03] find the movie on our hard drive, [00:00:10.04] click Open, and we'll be asked to save our [00:00:14.04] project. This is so the automatic [00:00:18.05] save feature can work. [00:00:22.06] Now, before I begin, I'm going to turn the movie down here, or you won't be able to hear me [00:00:26.07] speak. And, I'm going to adjust this [00:00:30.08] Repeat Interval to 3, because I happen to know that [00:00:34.09] there is 3 seconds of music at the beginning of this movie. [00:00:38.11] So, instead of hitting the Play button, [00:00:42.12] I'm going to instead hit the Start button, [00:00:46.13] and all I do is type what I hear. And like I said, there is just music at the beginning [00:00:50.15] so I'm going to put in parentheses "( music )" [00:00:54.16] and I'm going to hit my Return key. [00:00:58.18] That will set the first caption. And you'll notice that [00:01:02.20] the movie went on to the next 3 seconds [00:01:06.21] of the movie, whatever is set in the Repeat Interval. I can adjust this [00:01:10.21] anywhere from 1 to 11. I'm going to set it to 4 now. [00:01:14.22] And if you change that, you're going to have to hit the Start button again. [00:01:18.24] So, I'm going to hit the Start button again, [00:01:22.25] and all I'm going to do is type what I hear. [00:01:26.27] [00:01:30.30] [00:01:34.30] [00:01:38.31] [00:01:42.33] [00:01:46.34] [00:01:50.35] [00:01:54.37] [00:01:58.41] [00:02:02.42] [00:02:06.43] [00:02:10.45] [00:02:14.46] [00:02:18.50] [00:02:22.52] [00:02:26.55] [00:02:30.57] [00:02:34.60] [00:02:38.62] And I'm just going to go ahead and set all the rest of the captions. [00:02:42.64] [00:02:46.65] Okay, I've gone ahead and set all my captions, as you can see over here on the right. This is a [00:02:50.66] short movie; it's only a minute and 20 seconds long. [00:02:54.67] I can click on any of these [00:02:58.69] and see the captions and you'll see [00:03:02.70] that they're not very evenly spaced. There's only three words [00:03:06.71] on the second line. I can do something about that, though. [00:03:10.73] If I go to edit up here [00:03:14.76] I can type a pipe symbol, it's the key right [00:03:18.77] above your Return key, and you'll have to hold the Shift [00:03:22.79] key down. If you type one of those as a marker [00:03:26.81] for a carriage return, you'll see that it forces a carriage return. [00:03:30.83] We can't use our carriage return (Return key), because we use that to set the captions [00:03:34.84] for the best speed. So, we're going to use [00:03:38.85] the pipe symbol. [00:03:42.86] So, I can go through and I can just [00:03:46.88] visually see about halfway [00:03:50.88] is for each of these, and break up each caption. [00:03:54.90] Now I can type the pipe symbol as I'm typing, [00:03:58.91] but I prefer to have all the text in, and [00:04:02.93] set them afterwards. So, I can [00:04:06.95] go through and set all the line breaks [00:04:10.97] for all these captions to make them a little more readable. [00:04:14.97] And at any point I can preview my [00:04:18.99] captions in QuickTime just by going to the Preview [00:04:23.00] in QuickTime button. It'll launch the [00:04:27.01] QuickTime player and begin playing the movie. [00:04:31.03] And you'll see that the pipe [00:04:35.04] symbol doesn't show up in your final export. [00:04:39.06] [00:04:43.08] Now... [00:04:47.11] at some points I put a blank caption [00:04:51.13] in so that the captions would expire. [00:04:55.15] You'll see it coming up here. [00:04:59.17] Okay, that's a blank caption. Otherwise the [00:05:03.20] last caption would still be up. So, [00:05:07.22] if I'm done previewing I can just close that movie [00:05:11.23] If I need to do more editing, I can, if you happen to [00:05:15.26] be stopped editing at any point, go to the last [00:05:19.28] caption that you set, click on [00:05:23.31] it and then click the Cue Next button, and that will [00:05:27.33] reset everything to the next point where a caption would come in. [00:05:31.34] That's what the Cue Next button is for. [00:05:35.36] [00:05:39.37] Also, when I'm previewing, if I decide I don't like the [00:05:43.39] text, the font, or size, I can go ahead [00:05:47.40] and reset it in the Text Window Properties. [00:05:51.42] Let's say I want yellow text [00:05:55.45] and a blue background. [00:05:59.46] Once I set that, they're not [00:06:03.47] set yet. I have to click this button, and that will change all the captions [00:06:07.48] to those settings, and it'll tell you [00:06:11.49] once you do that. So, let's preview it again real quick [00:06:15.52] and you can see we now have [00:06:19.53] blue background and yellow text [00:06:23.55] and a little bolder font. [00:06:27.57] If you're doing larger [00:06:31.58] DV movies, [00:06:35.61] you might need to set the height of the background [00:06:39.62] where the text is. I can set it anywhere from 20 to [00:06:43.63] 100 pixels. We'll set it to 80 real quick so you'll see [00:06:47.65] what that does. [00:06:51.67] You can see it's a much larger [00:06:55.70] text window. So, that's how you control that. [00:06:59.72] [00:07:03.74] That's really the basics of how to use it. [00:07:07.76] At any point I can delete one of these captions by [00:07:11.79] selecting it and click the Remove Caption button. [00:07:15.81] I can insert a caption by [00:07:19.82] clicking a caption and then clicking the Insert Caption button. [00:07:23.83] That will insert a blank caption right before that caption. [00:07:27.84] I can split one in two if I think the words are too long [00:07:31.84] if they're not fitting, if they're running 3 lines or something, [00:07:35.86] I can select anywhere within a caption [00:07:39.89] and I'll say split caption [00:07:43.93] and you'll see it made it into 2 different captions. [00:07:47.95] Once you're all done setting captions and you're happy with [00:07:51.97] the preview, you have a lot of different options for exporting. [00:07:55.99] You can also import text in paragraph [00:08:00.00] and line form and then you'll get this button [00:08:04.03] Set Timecode. Once you import everything, [00:08:08.05] just click the Set Timecode every time the new caption is spoken [00:08:12.07] in the movie, and it'll automatically time everything for you. [00:08:16.09] Or you can insert a blank caption [00:08:20.14] the same idea as what we see down here to make a caption expire. [00:08:24.15] So, that's how to use MovCaptioner [00:08:28.17] If you have any questions, there's a How To Use MovCaptioner, which [00:08:32.18] you will probably see on the demo that keeps popping up [00:08:36.20] and that will go away once you purchase [00:08:40.21] the product. And you can also email [00:08:44.30] me at support@synchrimedia.com [00:08:48.30] if you have any other questions. Thanks for trying MovCaptioner and [00:08:52.31] good luck with your project.
